Professor Simon Ward

Simon Ward has an MA in Natural Sciences and a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry from Cambridge University, UK. He has a wide ranging experience of drug discovery in both pharma, biotech & academia (GlaxoSmithKline, BioCrea, Knoll Pharmaceuticals, Vernalis, Chiroscience, University of Sussex) and specialist experience of discovering and developing drugs for central nervous system and cancer indications. He has led multidisciplinary project teams & medicinal chemistry groups from target identification, through to early clinical studies, delivering multiple clinical development candidates across indications. He also has considerable experience of successful in- and out-licencing, due diligence and deal making.

Simon is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and his external roles include Vice Chair of the Society for Medicines Research, Member of the funding review panels for the Cancer Research UK Small Molecule Expert and MRC Developmental Pathway Funding Schemes, and Lead for the Royal Society of Chemistry residential summer school.  Simon is currently Sêr Cymru Professor in Translational Drug Discovery and Director of the Medicines Discovery Institute at Cardiff University.
